On the heels of Thanksgiving and Black Friday comes Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 — an opportunity to support small, local businesses (and the entrepreneurs who run them) while crossing some items off your holiday shopping list.

In 2024, the reported projected spending in the U.S. from those who shopped on Small Business Saturday was around $22 billion, according to the Small Business Association (SBA).

Shopping local helps support the community and drives economic growth by creating local jobs and generating dollars within the city. 68% of every dollar spent with small business returns to the local economy, according to the Better Business Bureau.

In addition to fostering civic pride, supporting local business can afford shoppers more unique products and gifts with personalized service. Grab a plant from an Arlington nursery, a curated gift from a local boutique or a hand-baked treat from a nearby bakery.

The Great Arlington Chamber of Commerce, which has championed economic and community prosperity for 80 years, advertises Small Business Saturday specials and promotions. For increased visibility, business owners can add their Small Business Saturday specials on the Chamber’s website. Entrepreneurs can also find free marketing materials through the Small Business Administration.

Shoppers can view a catalog of local businesses in the greater Arlington area and shop Small Business Saturday deals on the Keep it Local Arlington website.
